Phillies Closer Brad Lidge Will Have Surgey on Pitching Elbow
Brad Lidge will have surgery on Wednesday to remove a loose body from his right elbow. He will also have his right flexor tendon evaluated. Lidge’s elbow caused him some pain during the season, but he insists that the condition never affected his performance. His 7.21 ERA suggests otherwise. Lidge’s agent Rex Gary expects him to be ready for the start of spring training.
Broncos Suspend WR Brandon Marshall for Rest of the Preseason
The Denver Broncos suspended disgruntled Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall through
Sept. 5 for what coach Josh McDaniels called “detrimental” conduct. During pre-practice warmups Wednesday, Marshall walked while the rest of the team ran. He punted a ball away instead of handing it to a ball boy and swatted a pass thrown to him. His actions were caught on video and broadcast by KMGH-TV.
Marshall told ESPN on Thursday night he wasn’t trying to force a trade through insubordination but that frustration got the best of him.

Yankees and Mets Play First Games at New Ballparks
Eager NY fans turned out on a wet Friday night to watch the Yankees and Mets test their plush new ballparks in exhibition games, a double debut in a city that hasn’t had a new MLB stadium in 45 years. Across town, Frank Sinatra songs played as fans took in the new Yankee Stadium, filled with old Yankees memorabilia and pictures of team titans such as Babe Ruth. At $1.5 billion, it is the costliest baseball stadium ever built.
“When I pass, I want my ashes to be buried here. That’s how beautiful it is,” John Zozzaro of Glen Cove said about the $800 million Citi Field in Queens.

C.C Sabathia Comes Up Clutch for Brewers to Clinch Wild Card Playoff Spot
Probably the true NL MVP this year, C.C. Sabathia pitched the Milwaukee Brewers to their first post season birth since 1982, with a complete game four hit win over the Chicago Cubs. Sabathia, pitching on just three days rest for the second time in a row, went the full distance allowing only four hits an no earned runs. Sabathia pitched his seventh complete game of the season in just seventeen starts since being traded to the Brewers.
To say that he is the main reason that Milwaukee will be playing in October for the first time in 26 years in an understatement.

Marques Colston Agrees to a Three Year Extension
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston, a seventh-round surprise three summers ago, has made the biggest catch of his career — a three-year contract extension.
“It’s really a tribute to how well Marques has done for us coming from Hofstra and being a seventh-round pick,” Loomis said. “Clearly, he’s been very productive, a nice surprise and a great story for us.”
A Hofstra product, Colston has surpassed 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first two seasons. Last season, he caught 98 passes for 1,202 yards and 11 touchdowns.
