Iverson's future with Grizzlies in limbo
Suddenly, another power forward has become available on the unrestricted free-agent landscape — and it could impact Allen Iverson’s chances of possibly playing for the Memphis Grizzlies next season. That power forward is Hakim Warrick, who was taken by surprise Thursday night when the Grizzlies rescinded their $3 million qualifying offer to him to give themselves more flexibility on the free-agent market.
Lamar Odom 'leaning' toward' Miami Heat
A Lamar Odom reunion with the Miami Heat apparently is not the ultimate longshot, even for a player coming off a championship season and facing a significant pay cut. Yahoo.com reported Saturday that the Los Angeles Lakers forward is “leaning strongly toward accepting” a Heat offer that would start next season at the $5.9 million mid-level salary-cap exception. The bad news is, it was against their own 4 and 5-year-old kids and doesn’t count in the standings. Oh well. In the real game played today, the Mariners were whipped 10-3 by the Cleveland Indians. And then, as if falling 7 1/2 games out of the division lead wasn’t bad enough, the team kept the clubhouse door closed longer than usual. The reason why is that Don Wakamatsu and Jack Zduriencik caught up with Erik Bedard afterwards and had a frank discussion with him.
Phillies offering Jays alternate player package
As trade negotiations between the Phillies and Toronto continued yesterday, the Phillies were trying to steer the Blue Jays toward a package led by pitcher Carlos Carrasco, infielder Jason Donald and others in their attempt to acquire righthander Roy Halladay, sources with knowledge of the negotiations said. On Thursday, the Jays asked for pitchers Kyle Drabek and J.A. Happ and outfielder Dominic Brown, but the Phillies think that’s too high a price. They don’t want to deal both pitchers, according to a baseball source
