When Stan Bowman replaced Dale Tallon as general manager of the Blackhawks this week, it apparently wasn’t because his father, coaching legend Scotty Bowman, made a phone call. “I never got involved in the process,” said Scotty Bowman, a senior adviser for the Hawks. “I was happy that [President John McDonough] never called me on that. I knew someday [Stan] might get a chance somewhere. I just found out from him when he called me. It was probably better that way.”
NHLPA recommends players skip on-ice camp activities
TORONTO — The NHL Players’ Association is recommending that players skip the on-ice portion of Olympic orientation camps because of insurance concerns. A source told The Canadian Press on Friday night that the NHLPA issued a memo to its affected members saying that they would be taking an “unwarranted and unnecessary risk” by skating at an Olympic camp this summer.
