Statistics, Game Theory and NCAA Bracketology - A Guide to Winning Your Bracket in 2010
A lot of mathematicians and game theorists who study NCAA tournament results give you an idea of the best way to fill out and win your bracket pool this coming March. Want some tips to start out?
1) Fill in the No. 1 seeds to win in the first round, because in the 25 years since the tournament expanded to 65 teams, no No. 1 seed has ever lost to a 16 seed.
Cav's Antawn Jamison Expecting to Play Sunday vs. Celtics
Cavaliers forward Antawn Jamison is expecting to play Sunday when Cleveland hosts the Boston Celtics in a game between division leaders. Jamison missed Friday’s win against Philadelphia because of a cyst behind his left knee. He said Saturday he thought he could have played against the 76ers, but team doctors advised him to rest. Jamison did not make the trip to Philadelphia.
He is averaging 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds since coming over in the trade to Cleveland.
Cleveland Browns and Former Panthers QB Jake Delhomme Agree to a New Contract
Jake Delhomme, released last week by the Carolina Panthers, has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Browns, whose quarterback position has been nothing short of a merry-go-round of players since the club returned as an expansion team 11 years ago. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter first reported the deal, and a source told Schefter that Delhomme is scheduled to make $7 million this season, including just under $900,000 in base salary. With $12.7 million from Carolina, Delhomme will make $19.7 million in 2010.
Pacquiao Victorious Over Clottey in 12 Rounds in Front of Over 50,000
In what looked more like a sparring session than a boxing match, Manny Pacquiao successfully won a unanimous decision over Joshua Clottey. With the biggest fight crowd in the U.S. in 17 years cheering him on at Cowboys Stadium, Pacquiao dominated a strangely passive Joshua Clottey from the opening bell Saturday night to retain his welterweight title and cement his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
2010 Fantasy Sleeper and Breakout Players
Here are my candidates for Come Back Player of the Year or Break Out Players to look out for on draft day:
1) Carlos Gonzalez -OF Rockies (a no-brainer here) – round 10-12 this guy should be there. Can put up gawdy Beltran like numbers in his first full season.
2) Connor Jackson – 1B D’Backs – virtually going un drafted in most 12 team mixed leagues. Pick him up late and be pleasantly surprised this season.
Raptors Jarrett Jack Tying His Shoe Laces During Live Play Against Bulls (12/5/09)
Raptors guard Jarrett Jack ties his shoe laces during live play in Bulls vs. Raptors contest in which the game was a blow out late in the third quarter. Shows the lack of play and care n the part of the Chicago Bulls this year.
Prime Bets for NFL Week 9
I posted my bets for the NFL week 7 a few weeks ago and I turned out to go something like 7-0-1 for the games I picked. Well hopefully, those of you who weren’t able to catch those bets in time before kickoff….here is who I like for week 9. These 5 are my top plays for the week.
#3 Alabama Overcomes #9 LSU for a Shot at SEC Title
Alabama (9-0) clinched the Southeastern Conference West with a 6-0 conference record and will play Florida, the East champion, on Dec. 5 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The two teams still have three games to play, so nothing should be taken for granted, especially on Alabama’s side. No. 9 LSU did its best to spoil the party Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium in front of 92,138 fans, but Alabama finally uncovered the offense that has been missing for a month and held on tight to its national championship hopes winning 24-15.
Andre Iguodala Off-The-Wall Trick Shot - Real or Fake?
This is a video of the 76ers star guard Andre Iguodala hitting an off the wall trick shot that catches nothing but net. But it seems as if it were staged due to the camera angle hiding the flight of the ball as he lets it go. You be the judge.
Kings Guard Kevin Martin to Miss At Least 2 Months with Wrist Injury
Star guard and leading scorer for the Kings Kevin Martin will miss at least 8 weeks with an injured left wrist as he heals from his surgery. Martin has a non displaced hairline fracture of the navicular bone in his wrist and will undergo surgery this Monday. Martin is averaging 30.6 points a game for the Kings, who have lost four of five games to open the season. Sacramento was an NBA-worst 17-65 last season.
Beno Udrih (FSY) is expected to replace Martin in the starting lineup Saturday in Utah and makes an excellent fantasy pick up for those lack PG depth in their lineups.
