2010 Fantasy Sleeper and Breakout Players
Here are my candidates for Come Back Player of the Year or Break Out Players to look out for on draft day:
1) Carlos Gonzalez -OF Rockies (a no-brainer here) – round 10-12 this guy should be there. Can put up gawdy Beltran like numbers in his first full season.
2) Connor Jackson – 1B D’Backs – virtually going un drafted in most 12 team mixed leagues. Pick him up late and be pleasantly surprised this season.
Foote to visit Pittsburgh
The News
Larry Foote is slated to visit the Steelers Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Our View
Foote could reach a deal to return to his former club if he passes a physical. He would serve in a backup role though, hence limiting his fantasy value. The veteran linebacker led the Lions with 99 tackles in 2009.
Deng ruled out for Friday
The News
Luol Deng has been ruled out for tonight's game at Miami, according to Chuck Swirsky's twitter page.
Our View
Deng is down with a strained calf, and will have some time to rest, as Chicago's next game won't come until Tuesday.
Buccaneers sign Alston
The News
Jon Alston has signed a deal with the Buccaneers, according to the Tampa Tribune on twitter.
Our View
Alston will provide quality depth at weak-side linebacker behind Geno Hayes, and should also be a solid contributor on special teams coverage. His fantasy stock looks to remain low though.
Mo Williams chips in 21 points for Cavs
The News
Mo Williams chipped in 21 points in tonight's 100-95 win at Philadelphia. He also had one rebound and two assists.
Our View
Williams let it rip, and made 4-of-8 shots from three-point range. He had his best scoring performance since February 26, when he dropped in 22 points at Toronto.
Iguodala scores 30 in losing effort
The News
Andre Iguodala poured in a game-high 30 points in Friday's 100-95 home loss to the Cavs, to go along with seven rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Our View
The star small forward performed up to high expectations for fantasy owners with a strong stat-line. He topped 30 points for the third time this season, with the last time coming on December 7 versus Denver.
Ayodele to visit San Francisco
The News
Akin Ayodele is slated to visit the 49ers Monday, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
Our View
Ayodele could provide quality depth at inside linebacker behind stud Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes in San Francisco, but his IDP value would remain limited.
L. Johnson bound for Washington
The News
Larry Johnson has agreed to a three-year deal with the Redskins, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page. It is believed to be worth $3.5MM, with incentives that could push it up to $12MM.
Our View
Johnson fared well during limited action in Cincinnati last season, and should push Clinton Portis for playing time in 2010. The Redskins really need to improve their shoddy offensive line for either back to be successful though.
Deng ruled out for Friday
The News
Luol Deng has been ruled out for tonight's game at Miami, according to Chuck Swirsky's twitter page.
Our View
Deng is down with a strained calf, and will have some time to rest, as Chicago's next game won't come until Tuesday.
Speights to miss game
The News
Marreese Speights will miss Friday's game against Cleveland due to a sprained right knee, according to Kate Fagan's (Philadelphia Inquirer) twitter page.
Our View
Speights injured his knee during battle with the Raptors last week, and looks to remain day-to-day. His depth will be missed by the Sixers, as he averages 8.1 points and four rebounds per game.
