Previewing, During and Post - USA vs. Sweden

Ya’ll can post your pre-game, running commentary, and post-game analysis here.

Obviously, both sides will field relatively domestic sides. Sweden is not bringing any of their stars; none of their starters from their 1-0 victory over the US is in Carson, CA for this match. On the USA side, inexperience is the name of the game, and Bob Bradley will utilize a very green and experimental lineup. I think we’ll have some good attacking pieces, as Taylor Twellman, Landon Donovan, Jozy Altidore, Maurice Edu and/or Ricardo Clark in the middle and front. The backline will be a bit of a problem I think. Only Jimmy Conrad has the international experience to deal confidently with the Swedes.

Here’s a starting lineup from soccer writer Ives Galarcep in his blog, soccerbyives.net:

————————Twellman————-Altidore—————————

Mapp————————Edu—————Donovan———-J. White

Dunivant————-Conrad————Parkhurst————Moor

——————————————-Guzan———————————-

I think it’ll look like this:

————————Twellman————-Donovan—————————

Mapp————————Edu—————Clark———-Kljestan

Dunivant————-Conrad————Parkhurst————Wynne

——————————————-Guzan———————————-

I’ll be back to post some analysis after the game but feel free to jump in if you are watching the game with a computer on your lap. Game starts at 5:30 PM PST on Fox Soccer Channel. Go USA!

good victory

I'll come back with a more complete analysis of the USA win over Sweden (2-0) but I must say I was overall happy with the result. Landon Donovan got his 35th goal as a 'Nat and became the all-time leading scorer in US history. The team played well together and the teamwork appeared to have paid off. Jozy Altidore was a handful for the Swedish defense, although he did make some rookie errors. But you can see his confidence is growing. Good win. On to Houston to meet Mexico!

not exciting but we'll take it

I was disappointed to see that (other than Sam's Army) the crowd was not really big there. But, we saw the US play together. I thought the best player was Brad Guzan, he made some point blank saves that kept us in the game. Celtic is calling, I think he's ready.
