July 19, 2008 is going to be a huge landmark in the MMA world. Not only is the world’s best pound for pound fighter, Anderson Silva, moving up to the 205 pound light-heavyweight division to face Sacramento’s James Irvin at UFC fight night. The best heavyweight in the world Fedor Emilianenko will be fighting in the new Affliction event against UFC veteran Tim Sylvia.
Earlier this year Silva won the all coveted “most dangerous man” award by Spike TV and this was when he was 185. Silva at 205 is going to be really scary. The world’s best pound for pound fighter putting on 20 pounds of muscle. It’s going to be impressive. I just hope he doesn’t kill somebody in the cage. I anticipate the Spider taking the light heavyweight division by storm. I think James Irvin is going to give Silva a good fight. He is extremely strong and has great muay thai, training in Thailand. However when one watches Silva it seems as if it is only a matter of time before the Brazilian capitalizes on his opponents mistakes.
Fedor vs. Sylvia is going to be one of the most anticipated fights in awhile. I’ve been waiting to see Fedor fight UFC veterans. I think he will make quick work of Tim Sylvia. Fedor is used to fighting tall fighters in Pride. I predict the Last Emperor is going to submit Sylvia by armbar. I am eager to see Fedor move onto fighting Randy Couture. I think Captain America has a legitimate shot at beating the unstoppable Emelianenko. It’s going to be a great night of fights.
why UFC, why? This was a boldfaced move by Dana White to try to take Affliction out and make fans choose. Again, UFC is NOT about what’s best for fans, they are doing what’s best for their business model.
