This weekend’s card was exciting, however there were no real surprises. I expected Lyoto Machida to win over Tito Ortiz by decision or TKO by strikes. Machida is part of the esteemed Team Black House which has a stable of top notch fighters including Anderson Silva, Paul Filho, and Antonio Noguiera. Machida is notably better than Ortiz and I am looking forward to his next fight in the 205 light heavyweight division. I’d like to see him fight Lidell next. In the Vanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine fight, I thought the ax murderer would make quick work of the game Jardine. Jardine was impressive against Chuck Lidell however I think he is still improving. Vanderlei Silva vs. Lyoto Machida would be a good match. I would also like to see Silva fight Rampage Jackson for the title. He has two wins over him in Pride. Silva vs. Griffin would also be exciting. In the main event BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk, I was surprised to see Penn engage in standup with Sherk the whole time and not try to take him down. Penn did not go for any submission attempts. Penn’s standup was impressive but Sherk’s boxing did not look bad in the first and second rounds. The knee to end the fight was vicious. BJ looked like an animal. I did not really care for BJ’s actions at the end of the fight, there’s bad blood between them, however it was a little unsportsmanlike, uncharacteristic of BJ who exemplifies sportmanship. All in all it was a great night of fights. I would like to see Penn fight GSP rather than Kenny Florian, or perhaps fight Anderson Silva, a meeting at a consented weight perhaps 178 pounds.
Florian or Huerta next These guys should get a shot at BJ before BJ takes on GSP. Are you talking about how BJ put his hands on Sherk to get his blood to lick it? That’s crazy. Jardine is susceptible to the knockout, we also saw that vs. Alexander. Silva vs. Machida, the winner may indeed get winner of Rampage-Griffin.
