NFL Week 1: The Picks Part 1

Hard to believe that today is the first game in the NFL. With an exciting year going on in baseball, it’s hard to get into football until after the playoffs are done. But this year I’m really excited for many reasons. The best reason is of course my loyal readers will get to enjoy my first season as a blogger. So what does that mean? Lots of stuff: my picks, previews, commentary, updates on my fantasy and other stuff! So sit back and enjoy!

Today’s edition will be brief. I will do a full blown edition this weekend. Since there is a game tonight, I will weigh in on that game. If you live in the DC area, I’m sure you’ll need no reminder as to who’s playing tonight. The Giants and the Deadskins. The football Giants begin defense of their NFL title and we know that repeating is not easy. It’s actually been quiet for the Giants. The only major trauma is that the Giants lost perhaps their best defensive lineman. There’s depth there, so the Giants should be fine. Eli Manning quited most doubters about his ability, but to me, it’s still Eli. Let’s see what he’s made of. For the Skins, they looked pathetic in their last two preseason games. We know what the preseaon means, so they start off clean. There’s major questions at receiver , and to me, even at quarterback. I think the Skins will struggle early this season.

The pick: NY Giants will win tonight; we’ll say 34-17.

Other quick things:

-Sad news with Jaguars player Richard Collier shot this week. Here’s hoping he comes out of this with his life, let alone being able to play again.

-Rudi Johnson gets to Detroit and a former Lion Tatum Bell steals his luggage. Or as the story goes. Talk about being bitter (Bell that is)

I will have all of the football you cared about and more this weekend!

I think the game tonight will be closer than your prediction. I would not be surprised at all with a Redskins win. That’s a pretty well-balanced team and the Giants D misses Osi.
