Well I know one place on earth that will be jumping come Friday night’s match-up between the Penguins and Flyers, and that place is State College, PA. For us at Penn State this week is finals week, so everyone has been shut in for the past few days trying to get the school year over.
Come friday, everyone will be out.
Half the school is from the western part of the state, and root for all that is Pittsburgh, and the other half cheer for those mud teams from Filthydelphia. Anyways, not much needs to be said about the sports rivalries in the small central Pennsylvanian town.
Pittsburgh has won 5 Super Bowls, 2 Stanley Cups, and 5 World Series. As for the teams from Philly, it has been over 9000 days since their last title.
Philly trumps us in baseball, not because they are good, but because the Pirates have sucked for 14 straight years. They do, however, spend about $100 million more dollars than the Pirates, so maybe that has something to do with it.
The Steelers dominate the Eagles. Come on guys, there is no reason to chant E-A-G-L-E-S all night long when your team is under .500.
This hockey series is the rubber match between the cities. The up-start and more talented Pens, versus the revamped, albeit over paid, Daniel Briere led Flyers.
I never had anything bad to say about philly or their teams before I came to school. It’s just unbelievable how obnoxious those fans are. They sport their “guido” blown-out hair and skinny sideburns, their eagles jerseys with their Phillies hats, and now that they realize that their hockey team is pretty good, everyone has gone out and bought their daniel briere or mike richards T-shirt jerseys. Fair weather?
Only a few exports from that city are worth a damn:
1. The Declaration of Independence
2. Cheese Steaks
3. Rocky
4. “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” on FX
5. Kobe
Don’t think I skipped over anything.
So next week when the only occupants of State College are us graduating seniors, celebrating “Senior Week”, the bars will be full and this series will be brutal both on the participants and us fans.
predictions on this series? I’ll predict Penguins 4, Flyers 2.
