How should the Patriots be punished?

Blog post by BobbyBluechip, 3 months ago

It’s all the talk these days in the NFL, Bill Belicheat’s football instructional DVDs which teach you how to beat the opponent. Can’t wait to download the box set.

In the meantime, what is Goodell going to do with this guy? Only an idiot would think that the Patriots didn’t do this for every single game during the Belicheat regime…and spare me the nonsense about other teams doing it as well. Whether they are doing or not is besides the point, they didn’t get caught!

The double standard that Goodell has created is almost unreal. The NFL players know him as Goodell Castro for his stringent conduct policy yet coaches and team executives seem to be above the law. Coaches and team execs can think of him as Roger Good ‘ol Boys Network.

Now I’m not taking anything away from the Patriots and what they’ve done on the field. You can’t take away championships or accolades because it’s after that fact. However, the most common denominator in all of this Spygate mess is Coach Bill Belicheat and Owner Robert Kraft. Both of these guys should be reprimanded pretty heavily by the league.

In light of the Matt Walsh tapes, what’s a good punishment? I think we’ll know more once the tapes are released to the public but it’s safe to say at this point that the video practices were a key cog to Belicheat’s game plan week in and week out.

I think Belicheat deserves at least an 8 game suspension. If I was in charge I’d suspend him for the entire year and make an example of him. If you’re going to suspend Pacman for a year and he’s never been convicted of anything then how can’t you suspend someone else who’s guilty on multiple counts? As for Bob Kraft, ban him from the stadium on game day so he can’t sit in the owners box and watch his team. It’s no matter to him as he could watch the game on the biggest and baddest TV out there. However, during broadcasts I’m sure they’ll always make it a point as to why Kraft isn’t there and that public relations hit would be quite severe.

What do y’all think? Too harsh? Too easy?

two sets of rules the rules should be laid down and interpreted consistently, at least. the punishment should fit the crime. In this case, it was quite serious and the proof is obvious. Get to work, Goodell!

Tough call Whatever Goodell decides to do with the Patriots and their management is going to be unprecedented. It’s fair to say that the league has never had to handle a situation such as this.
Technology was supposed to make the game and preparation for the game easier, not to cheat the other team. It’s not like the advent of modern technologies can be undone and the sum of the money that these advents bring to the league are astronomical so there is no way they can limit technology.
I can only see them stepping up the enforcement and supervision by league appointed personnel.
As for the Patriots, Goodell and the NFL, need to make an example of Belichick. He is the coach of arguably the best team in the league and the dynasty of the 2000s, so putting the clamp on him would show the rest of the league that Goodell’s iron fist isn’t only used on players with character issues.
It’s hard to say what exactly the punishment should be but it should be enough to bring good ol’ Bill back down off that pedestal that he’s been on since 2001.

Goodell Should…. .....take away another draft pick and suspend Beli-“cheat” for about four to six games. We all know Belichick and the Pats are still good enough to coast through their opposition this year even without their head coach on the sidelines.

can’t believe the league is going to do nothing the tapes show that the findings are consistent with what the league found before..what bs..i guess there’s no difference in Goodell’s mind as to whether they violated the rule once or 100x….lame -bB
